Each time we form an attachment to another human being, it is inevitable that, sooner or later, one person in the relationship will die. With every relationship we form, loss is guaranteed, though we rarely think about that outcome. Grief begins with childhood losses and its tantrums and tears. Over time, our responses to loss grow more complex. There may still be tantrums and tears, but also anxiety, anger, depression, numbness, and more. While we may think of death as the ultimate loss, all losses impact our development.
The underlying theme of this workshop is to provide a pathway for conscious grieving to those experiencing a wide range of losses, including the ultimate loss, death. We will explore the grieving process through the asanas and yogic philosophy. Our time together will be spent in the spirit of initiating healing while reinforcing community. One takeaway from this workshop will be an understanding of the potential of grief to be a conscious journey that brings about intense growth and remarkable transformation.
This workshop is open to students of all levels. Yoga teachers are encouraged to attend in order to be able to better address the grief and loss needs of their students.
Registered students will receive a copy of Koren’s article, Yoga for Letting Go, (Spring/Summer 2019,Yoga Samachar). Please read this before the workshop.
