Yoga for Scoliosis & Back Care: Centering the Spine with Traction

Scoliosis, a lateral curvature of the spine, affects millions of people in different ways. Structural scoliosis is congenital and typically more pronounced, while functional scoliosis develops from muscular imbalances often caused by repetitive movement patterns, injury, or postural habits. Both types respond beautifully to targeted yoga practice that addresses the spine’s specific needs.

Yoga for scoliosis and back care offers powerful tools to reduce pain, lessen incorrect curvatures, improve alignment, and restore function. The key is working intelligently with poses designed specifically for spinal conditions, not generic stretching, but therapeutic sequences that create length, strength, and balance.

As a certified Yoga for Scoliosis specialist, I completed Elise Miller’s rigorous Teacher Training Program, which included 20 hours of intensive workshops on spinal biomechanics and therapeutic applications, plus a six-month hands-on practicum working privately with students managing scoliosis and chronic back pain. This specialized training shapes every aspect of how I approach spinal health.

In This All-Levels Workshop, You’ll Explore:
• Awakening breath awareness – Develop conscious breathing that supports spinal health and releases tension
• Learn poses that lengthen your spine – Create space between vertebrae and decompress compressed areas
• Strengthen back & core muscles – Build the supportive musculature essential for proper postural alignment

• Realign your posture – Discover how mindful movement brings the spine back toward center
• Centering your spine with tractionThe primary focus of this workshop—using props and specific techniques to create therapeutic traction
