Scoliosis, a lateral curvature of the spine, affects millions of people in different ways. Structural scoliosis is congenital and typically more pronounced, while functional scoliosis develops from muscular imbalances often caused by repetitive movement patterns, injury, or postural habits. Both types respond beautifully to targeted yoga practice.

In 2018, Koren completed Elise Miller’s rigorous Yoga for Scoliosis Teacher Training program, learning evidence-based therapeutic approaches for spinal conditions and back care. But her understanding goes deeper than certification.
She’s lived with a wired sternum plate since 1964, experiencing firsthand the profound benefits of therapeutic yoga practice. Through dedicated work with scoliosis-specific techniques, she’s learned to lengthen her spine, realign her posture, strengthen supporting muscles, and significantly reduce chronic pain. The transformation has been profound, not just physically, but in breath capacity and mental wellbeing.
This personal journey informs every session she teaches. She understands the challenges, frustrations, and incremental victories that come with spinal conditions because she’s lived them.
