The chakra system runs along a single central channel, the sushumna nadi. For a spine that twists, compresses, or guards against pain, that line is often exactly what the body has lost access to. This workshop shows you how to find and work from your center when your back doesn’t feel centered.
Each chakra carries an element, from earth at the root to ether at the throat, and those elements give us a practical language for what each region of the spine needs. A low back that grips needs fluidity. A closed chest needs air. A tense neck needs space. As well as mapping where the chakras sit, we’ll work with the quality each region is missing and use asana and pranayama with a therapeutic approach to restore it.
We will also explore the three granthis, the traditional knots along the central channel, as a way of understanding where holding and pain collect in the spine.
Students will leave with a way of reading their own back through the elements, a vocabulary for what each region needs, and therapeutic practices they can bring into daily life.
Open to students with scoliosis, back pain, or injury, and to teachers who work with them. No prior knowledge of the chakras required.
